Hot Octopuss is a London-based brand best known for PulsePlate Technology: instead of the usual buzz, its Pulse toys use strong oscillations, which is why the Pulse Solo can be used hands-free, erect or not. Naughty Hut offers New Zealand buyers 13 Hot Octopuss toys from NZ$82.99 to NZ$316.99, plus genuine replacement chargers.

Who is Hot Octopuss?
Two friends founded Hot Octopuss in London in 2013. They set out to rethink products the rest of the industry had stopped questioning. The company calls itself a wellness brand. Its stated belief is that pleasure is a right for everyone, whatever their gender, age or ability, and that inclusive aim runs through the whole range. Several of its toys are designed for people who find conventional toys difficult, including people with erection difficulties or limited mobility.
In practice that gives three product families. There are the Pulse toys, built on PulsePlate Technology. There are toys built on the brand's second technology, Treble & Bass. And there is a set of couples and anal toys (the Atom cock rings and the PleX plug) that apply the same "rethink it" approach to familiar categories. You can read the brand's own account on the official Hot Octopuss website.
How does PulsePlate Technology work?
A normal vibrator uses a small spinning motor with an off-centre weight. The result is a fast, fine buzz felt mostly at the surface of the skin. PulsePlate works differently. A plate oscillates against the body with a much larger amplitude, meaning it travels much further on each movement. Hot Octopuss describes this as oscillation rather than vibration. For the Pulse Queen, the brand quotes an amplitude of 2.5–3 mm and describes the feel as "deep, bassy oscillations" that travel further into the body. The practical result is stimulation that does not depend on friction or stroking.
The origin is unusual for this industry. According to Hot Octopuss, the technology behind the Pulse Solo Essential and Pulse Duo has its origins in medical science. The brand says studies identified the specific frequency and amplitude of stimulation that can allow orgasm in men with spinal cord injury. The Pulse applies those findings to a consumer toy. Hot Octopuss says the result helps people who struggle with conventional sex and masturbation, naming older users, people with erection difficulties and people with mobility issues.
Two practical consequences follow for buyers:
- No erection needed. The Pulse Solo cradles the penis and rests the plate against the frenulum. Hot Octopuss states it can be used flaccid or erect.
- No stroking needed. Because the plate does the work, the toy can be used hands-free. That matters if grip, wrist or shoulder movement is limited, and it's also why the Pulse is popular for slow edging.
A note on health: the Pulse is a pleasure product, not a medical treatment. If erection difficulties are new or worrying, it is worth talking to your GP, since they can be an early sign of other health issues.
And Treble & Bass?
Treble & Bass Technology is the brand's second technology. It pairs two motors of different sizes: a "treble" motor for fast, high-frequency vibration and a "bass" motor for deep, rumbly vibration. You adjust each one separately, which Hot Octopuss compares to a graphic equaliser. It appears in the Jett and the Kurve.

Which Hot Octopuss should you buy?
For solo play with a penis: Pulse Solo Essential, Solo Lux, Dragon Eye or Jett?
Start with the Pulse Solo Essential (NZ$176.99). It is the brand's best-selling toy and the purest version of the PulsePlate idea. You get hands-free oscillation against the frenulum, six patterns, and it works flaccid or erect. Hot Octopuss lists it as waterproof and rechargeable, with up to an hour of use per charge. If you're buying your first Hot Octopuss, this is the one to buy.
The Pulse Solo Essential Dragon Eye (NZ$176.99) is the same toy in a special-edition iridescent finish, at the same price. Choose whichever you'd rather look at.
Upgrade to the Pulse Solo Lux (NZ$237.99) if you want three things the Essential doesn't have:
- A wrist-strap remote that controls every function, so you never have to reach for the toy.
- A higher top speed, with a Turbo button that Hot Octopuss rates at 4,850 rpm.
- A magnetic charging cable instead of a plug-in one.
The remote is the real reason to spend the extra NZ$61. It makes hands-free play genuinely hands-free, and it's the better choice if reaching or gripping is difficult.
The Jett (NZ$105.99) is the budget route into Hot Octopuss for penis owners. It isn't a PulsePlate toy. Instead, a flexible sleeve holds a Treble & Bass vibration unit against the frenulum, with a remote to adjust both motors. The sensation is more of a classic vibration than the Pulse's oscillation, but it's still hands-free, and it costs about NZ$70 less.
For couples: Pulse Duo 2025 or Pulse Duo Lux?
Both Duos put the PulsePlate on the penis-owning partner and add a separate vibrating base for the other partner. The idea is that one toy stimulates both of you during foreplay, with neither of you holding it.
The Pulse Duo 2025 (NZ$235.99) is the current model and our default recommendation. Hot Octopuss says the 2025 version is 40% more compact and more powerful than the previous Duo, with deeper oscillations and a newly arched base. It comes with a wireless remote that controls the partner-side vibrations and a Turbo mode. It is waterproof and runs up to an hour on a three-hour charge.
The Pulse Duo Lux (NZ$316.99) takes a different approach to control. It has two wrist remotes, so each partner runs their own side: one the PulsePlate, the other the outer vibrations. Choose it if you both want independent control. Stock is very limited.
For couples during sex: Atom, Atom Plus or Atom Plus Lux?
The Atom family are vibrating cock rings designed, in the brand's words, to feel as good for the partner as for the wearer. Each has a stretchy ring plus a broad contact area for grinding against.
- Atom (NZ$93.99) is the entry point, with a raised nub for targeted pressure. See also our wider vibrating cock rings range.
- Atom Plus (NZ$153.99) has two motors, one along the top of the shaft and one for the perineum. It has 5 speeds and 5 modes, is waterproof, and gives up to 40 minutes per charge.
- Atom Plus Lux (NZ$140.99) offers the same shaft-and-perineum stimulation with 5 speeds and 5 modes, and adds an included remote so either partner can change settings mid-play. At today's prices it is NZ$13 cheaper than the Atom Plus, so unless you specifically don't want a remote, it's the better buy.
For vulva owners: Pulse Queen, Kurve or Amo?
The Pulse Queen (NZ$125.99) is what makes this brand interesting for vulva owners too. Hot Octopuss calls it the first clitoral wand with PulsePlate Technology, and it produces the same deep oscillation as the Pulse Solo. If standard vibrators feel too buzzy, numbing or surface-level, the Pulse Queen is the one to try. It has 9 speeds and 7 modes, is waterproof and USB-rechargeable, gives up to 40 minutes per charge, and is quoted at under 45 dB. Compare it with conventional wand vibrators if you're deciding between technologies.
The Kurve (NZ$176.99) is a G-spot vibrator using Treble & Bass. You can run the fine and the rumbly motor separately or together, and a soft, flexible gel tip lets you control pressure. It is USB-rechargeable.
The Amo (NZ$82.99) is the most affordable Hot Octopuss toy we stock. It is a small premium-silicone bullet with a large motor for its size, and its contoured shape switches between pinpoint and broad stimulation. It's a good choice for travel.
For anal and prostate play: PleX with Flex
The PleX with Flex (NZ$176.99) is a remote-controlled butt plug. Its key feature is a flexible base that moves with your body, which makes it comfortable to wear for longer. It is shaped with prostate stimulation in mind and it's waterproof. As with any anal toy, use plenty of water-based lube and go slowly. If you're new to anal play, our butt plugs range has smaller starter options.
Our Hot Octopuss picks

Hot Octopuss for accessible and inclusive play
For many buyers this is the most important part of the guide. PulsePlate toys don't need an erection, a firm grip or repeated stroking, so they can work when conventional male toys can't. Hot Octopuss names older users, people with erection difficulties and people with mobility issues among those it designs for, and its stated mission is pleasure for every gender identity, age and ability. If hand use is the barrier, choose a model with a remote: the Pulse Solo Lux has a wrist-strap remote, and the Pulse Duo 2025 and Atom Plus Lux each come with a remote. We are happy to help you choose, confidentially.
Care, lube and charging
- Lube: use a water-based lube, as the product listings advise. Silicone-based lube can degrade silicone surfaces. See our water-based lubricants.
- Cleaning: wash with warm water and a toy cleaner after every use, dry fully, and store somewhere cool. The Pulse Solo Essential, Pulse Solo Lux, Pulse Duo 2025, Pulse Queen, Atom Plus and PleX are described as waterproof. For other models, check the product listing before submerging them.
- Chargers: Hot Octopuss uses two charger styles, so check which one your toy takes before ordering a spare. The P3 Magnetic Charging Cable (Size 1) (NZ$25.99) fits the Pulse Solo Lux and Pulse Duo Lux. The Pulse Solo & Atom charging cable (NZ$25.99) fits the Pulse Solo Essential, Atom and Atom Plus.

Hot Octopuss NZ: frequently asked questions
Is the Hot Octopuss Pulse worth it? Yes, if you want a sensation that is genuinely different rather than a stronger version of a normal toy. It is especially worth it if erections, stroking or hand movement are a barrier. The Pulse Solo Essential (NZ$176.99) is the best starting point.
What's the difference between the Pulse Solo Essential and the Pulse Solo Lux? The Lux adds a wrist-strap remote, a higher top speed with a Turbo button, and magnetic charging. The core PulsePlate experience is the same.
Does the Pulse work without an erection? Hot Octopuss states the Pulse Solo can be used flaccid or erect, because the plate stimulates the frenulum through oscillation rather than stroking.
Is there a Hot Octopuss toy for women? Yes. The Pulse Queen brings PulsePlate oscillation to a clitoral wand, the Kurve is a dual-motor G-spot vibrator, and the Amo is a compact bullet. The Pulse Duo and Atom toys are built for couples.
